Building Alternatives, Inc. was founded in 1985 to offer alternatives to traditional forms of construction with particular attention paid to energy efficiency and the wise use of our precious resources. With this in mind, after several years of offering traditional and insulated log home building systems, I developed our current series of homes based on three principals:

1) The use of Standard Designs - to help reduce cost

2) Use a Superior Building System - to help achieve the above mission

3) A Pricing System that was quick, easy to understand and accurate in advance of the customer spending thousands of dollars for plans and bids.

During this time we have constantly improved our products and designs as technology and customer feedback has directed us. We have grown from an initial five designs to seventeen today. Our designs have grown larger and more complex as our customers have demanded more from us without losing the basic principles that have been our strength over the years.

We have new and updated floor plans, many more "standard" options available and continual technological advances. We are using new drafting software to take advantage of 3-D modeling technology that can better illustrate what our homes will look like when finished. The doll house floor plan view will soon be standard on all our models.

I have always believed that Affordability and Value go hand in hand, or at least they should. Any product can be made "cheaper" but this rarely makes it a better value. You may pay less up front and end up paying more for it over the life of the building. As is the case with the utility bills of a poorly insulated building. Also, the price you pay may not only be in dollars but also in the comfort level of your home.
